Science Week 2024 School Workshops at UL!

The SOPHia project is offering six face to fact workshops for schools during Science Week 2024. The SOPHia project aims to encourage more students to take physics as a subject, especially girls, and to improve student perceptions of physics. The SOPHia project is a partnership between the University of Limerick, IT Carlow and Tait House Community Organisation, and is funded by the Department of Physics at the University of Limerick and Science Foundation Ireland.

The SOPHia Project: Science Outreach to Promote Physics (Primary)

Date: Tuesday 12th November, 10 am or 12 noon or Thursday 14th November 10 am, 2024

This workshop is aimed at primary level students (3rd to 6th class). 

Our SOPHia workshop is all about the exciting world of physics! There will be science experiments, some information about what physics is about, some funny stories about famous physicists, and some things for you to try out at home or in the classroom too. And, as a bonus you will find out about the physics of bees! The workshop aims to get young kids interested in physics.

Date: Wednesday 13th November, 10 am or 12 noon or Thursday 14th November 12 noon, 2024

This workshop is aimed at Junior Cycle Students

Our SOPHia workshop is all about the exciting world of physics! There will be science experiments, some information about what physics is about, stories about famous physicists, career options in physics, and some things for you to try out at home or in the classroom. Our physics students here in the University of Limerick will explain their story of how they came to study physics too. The workshop is aimed to get more young people considering physics as a subject for their Leaving Cert, and have some fun along the way too!
